News: Driver fatally strikes pedestrian while swerving to avoid hitting another

PHOENIX, AZ – A pedestrian was struck after a driver swerved to avoid hitting another pedestrian standing in northwest Phoenix early Friday morning.

According to a report by CBS 5, the accident took place just after 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Bethany Home Road and 35th Avenue.

Police say a man was standing in the left turn lane when he was struck by a vehicle that had swerved to avoid hitting his girlfriend, who had fallen nearby.

The unidentified man was hit by the vehicle. He immediately was rushed to the hospital, where he died a short time later.

The victim’s girlfriend and the driver were unhurt.
